Please Bite Me

Twilight descends on S'pore

THE Twilight craze has well and truly engulfed Singapore.

If you thought only teenage girls swoon over vampire Edward Cullen, a character from the movie Twilight, think again!

All over the world, mothers of all ages have formed a niche community of 'Twi-moms'. Not only do they hoard Twilight merchandise the way teenagers do, they've started Twi-mom websites to wax lyrical over Edward and his artfully-tousled hair.

Lynn Ang, 27, a mother of a 4-year-old girl, is just one of many Singaporean mums who confesses her love for the pasty-faced bloodsucker. She goes beyond just watching Twilight countless times. She spends hundreds of dollars on merchandise with his image on it.

Of course, not all mums are fans. Teen Twilight fan Nurul Amirah, 16, says her mum doesn't approve of, or understand, her daughter's vampire obsession. The teen has watched Twilight 150 times at the theatre and plans to catch its sequel, New Moon, at least 300 times.

Wha...What?!! That's just plain crazy! These kind of fangirls will do anything for their idol, no matter how absurd it may sound.

Firstly I pity her mum. Obviously the money she spent didn't come from her own pocket. Let's say she was able to get a special discount for each ticket at $6. 150 tickets would have cost a whopping $900! I could understand a little if such huge sum of money was spent on perhaps limited edition DVDs, posters, and other related memorabilia etc but...

Spending on just movie tickets?! And watching the same movie over and over again for over 100 times?! It would be an absolute mental torture. Given the time and money, I wouldn't even do that for my most favourite movie. I wonder where her attention was during the subsequent movie trips. Hot bods? Yea girls could stare at it for hours without being bored, but a picture or a short video clip should suffice right?

Now let's analyze the total time spent (or wasted) - 2 hour duration x 150 = 300 hours, equivalent to 12 and half days...oh gosh! Imagine how many things you could have accomplished given these 300 hours.

Some time ago I saw a clip which shows Japanese schoolgirls going gaga over Twilight guys, and they were shrieking "Please bite me!" excitedly. Sigh... I guess they also don't mind having all their blood sucked out by Edward as well.

This really shows something: If you want to receive good box office earnings, please include at least one yandao in the main cast. (Chiobu not necessary since fanboys are not that crazy)
