+ Athena +

After watching Percy, I have a rekindled fascination over greek myths. So I shall do a series feature about Greek mythology. Short ones though!


The first goddess that I would like to introduce, is Athena. She is the goddess of civilisation, wisdom, strength, strategy, craft, justice and skill. How did she came about? She is the child of Zeus and Metis. Metis is Zeus's first wife, and the goddess of Wisdom.


The way she was born is very interesting. As Zeus was afraid that Metis might give birth to a son who is even more mighty than him, so he swallowed Metis. Metis made a helmet for Athena inside of Zeus, thus causing him to have headaches. Eventually, Athena was released, when Hephaestus ran to his father, and split the skull open.


To identify Athena, according to the websites, she has some important features. Firstly, she wears a helmet, holds a spear, has a shield with graphic of the Medusa's head on it. Animals like owl, and snakes may accompany the statues made. But as I googled, it isn't very constant.


Wiki says that Athena always use wisdom to settle predicaments, and only fights or go on war when there is a reasonable cause, or to resolve conflict.


There is a temple that workships Athena and Nike(goddess of victory). Beautiful buildings yea~ According to Wiki again, this temple was built, as the Athens wanted to become the leading Greek city state in the Peloponnese.
