Nature

Nature

It was a fine evening, the sun is setting gradually, lighting up the surroundings dimly with red and orange rays. In such a quiet and peaceful evening, MeiQi sat on a bench facing the sea. On the top of the hill, she glazed afar. She could see the sea, sparkling quietly under the gentle sunset. Seagulls flew in the sky, some stopping on the shore, others continue flying. Some flew in groups, others flew alone. They seemed to be enjoying too, the quietness and gentleness of the sunset.

MeiQi took out her drawing pad from her bag, and using a piece of charcoal, she started to sketch the surrounding. She wanted to record the different tones of the sunset. Yet, it is quite difficult to do so, as the sky soon darkens, until no rays of the sun remains in the sky. There are only bright stars and a full moon, shining in the dark sky, as if to tell her that the sun has not gone. Wind blew occasionally, cooling her skin with its gentle touch. She loves the wind. She likes to hear the melodious music it makes, as it blows in some direction, as if it is heading somewhere, some destination.

In the quietness of the surroundings, she could hear herself. She could hear her heart, their soft whispers, telling her that they enjoyed the peace and calmness generated by nature. Soon she found it difficult for her to concentrate on her drawing. Therefore, she decided to end her sketching, sliding the drawing pad back into the bag. She was freed from her aim. Now, she could really see the sky as it is; So dark, so mysterious, so quiet. She could also see the ocean as it is; So beautiful, so majestic, boundless, sweeping waves day and night to the shore.

She decided to get a little closer to the sea, and so she walked a little faster down the hill. Flip-flop flip-flop, she proceeded down the long stairway. She wondered if the insects are listening to her footsteps too, like she is listening to the songs they are making within the bushes, or wherever they are, holding a nature night concert.

When she finally reached the door of the sea, she politely shook its hand, by gently cupping the waters with her bare hands. The water is surprisingly warm, and left a gentle touch on her palms. There are not many people at the beach. She removed her purple slippers, placed it near her and soaked both feet in the sea water. As the waves washed ashore, she could feel the sand under her feet sweep away, forming a dent. Before long, her feet are buried under the sand. It was a ticklish feeling, to feel the slip away between her toes.

At the quietness of nature, she lay down on the shore, admired the sky and thought to herself. Nature is so peaceful, so quiet, so sweet, so calm, so majestic. Yet, why do human want to demolish nature landscapes, converting them into senseless, artificial, cold, lifeless buildings. Why couldn’t they preserve more nature? Why couldn’t they learn to live in peace. Why couldn’t they embrace and accept the beautiful stories told by nature, as they changed over space and time. If only there were more of such places, where human can be with the calm and peaceful. Nature, is beautiful. Her heart gasped with awe, as shooting star shot across the sky. May all human attain calmness, peace and love in their heart. May all of us be well and happy. May we enjoy the quietness and simplicity of nature. She rested her heart, as she enjoyed once again, the melody of the cooling wind.
