Oh and one more thing before i forget. The nomination list for Jupiter Award is dued on 4th Dec 2009 which is next week. So those who have not submit your nominations please do so soon. Haha.
This is something that i came across during recess week and i feel so strongly about after watching it. Very slack hor should be studying for exams yet doing all these bo liao stuff. Initially do not have any issues with all these just sitting on the fence and looking at both sides of the story. But after looking at the debate on the Tyra Banks Show, i really think something is not right here.
Alright some background information before i go into the main issue.
This is the issue on Proposition 8 in California.

Proposition 8 (or the California Marriage Protection Act) was a ballot proposition and constitutional amendment passed in the November 2008, state elections. The measure added a new provision, Section 7.5 of Article I, to the California Constitution. The new section reads:

By restricting the definition of marriage to opposite-sex couples, the proposition overturned the California Supreme Court's ruling of In re Marriage Cases that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry. The wording of Proposition 8 was precisely the same as that which had been found in Proposition 22, which, as an ordinary statute, had been invalidated by the Supreme Court. California's State Constitution put Proposition 8 into immediate effect the day after the election.[4] The proposition did not affect domestic partnerships in California.[5]
Proponents of the constitutional amendment argued that exclusively heterosexual marriage was "an essential institution of society," that leaving the constitution unchanged would "result in public schools teaching our kids that gay marriage is okay," and that gay people would "redefine marriage for everyone else." Opponents argued that "the freedom to marry is fundamental to our society," that the California constitution "should guarantee the same freedom and rights to everyone" and that the proposition "mandates one set of rules for gay and lesbian couples and another set for everyone else." They also argued that "equality under the law is a fundamental constitutional guarantee" (see Equal Protection Clause).[6]
The campaigns for and against Proposition 8 raised $39.9 million and $43.3 million, respectively, becoming the highest-funded campaign on any state ballot that day and surpassing every campaign in the country in spending except the presidential contest. After the elections, demonstrations and protests occurred across the state and nation. Same-sex couples and government entities filed numerous lawsuits with the California Supreme Court challenging the proposition's validity and effect on previously administered same-sex marriages. In the Strauss v. Horton case, the court upheld Proposition 8, but allowed existing same-sex marriages to stand (under the Grandfather clause principle). Additional lawsuits in federal courts are still pending.
Alright in other words to sum up, in California same sex marriage was actually allowed at first but the right was subsequently retracted. This is the first time in history that civil rights that were given to its people were being taken away.

Wah, do you feel like you wanna say something after the debate?
Firstly, I don't believe that there is a something such as a choice when it comes to sexuality. U dun get to choose. Just like straight people dun get to choose to be straight, they just are.
And yup im a Christian but i agree to fact that we shouldn't follow blindly whatever the Bible says to live in the 21st century. Alot of things have changed since the Bible was written.
And i think the women who wear the blue jacket i cant stand her la. She say what being homosexual is "diseased & unnatural". That's like the worse remark that you can give to any human being lor. U don't say this to AIDS or H1N1 patients right? U don't say this kinda thing to mentally or physically disabled people right? I mean im okay if you are against gay rights but saying such things to strengthen your point just shows ur low EQ and low professionalism lor. Even those straight people in the audience are like disgusted by those comments la.
And to think that these comments are coming from educated so called professionals in the US. Where is all the love and compassion that people are suppose to have? They are suppose to be the ones to make this world a better place la.
After hearing what she says, i think in Singapore, there will be more people who think that way ba. And it saddens me to see that there is so few compassion towards others in our society.
Aren't Christians suppose to be loving and compassionate to others? Even if they are different from us?
My stand is not against or for same sex marriage.
My stand is for the tolerance and compassion towards these group of people.
Well, something needs to be done so that people stop associating gay people with HIV and the various discrimination against homosexuals based on religious implications.
