Wonders created by them..

This is a really pretty Sunday afternoon. I'm slacking at home and besides chatting on msn, doing facebook quizzes, I thought I could blog something. It's been quite some time since my last Mango update too.

Ok.. it's time to showcase my paintings! U know I love to paint, I love art and the following are the works that I've completed in 2008.

OK I better not tell anymore lies. Haha.. These are works of cutey elephants.

Really unbelievable right?

The first one is "You Can't Fight Nature" (a painting by elephant “Wannalee”) and the second one is "Flames Of Passion "(a painting by elephant "JojO").

By the way, these paintings are not cheap. Most of them are around $300 plus. But for every painting sold online, US$30 will be donated towards the funds for the care of elephants.

Voice A: Who are they actually??

They are the elephant artists at the National Elephant Institute, Thailand.

"What an elephant produces is abstract art and like all abstract art, it is open to interpretation. Whether it has meaning or not, whether it has intrinsic beauty and desirability or not, is in the eyes of the beholder. " (I love abstract art!)

"I am certain that our elephant artists know what they are doing when they paint. After I have handed the loaded paintbrush to them, they proceed to paint in their own distinctive style, with delicate strokes or broad ones, gently dabbing the bristles on the paper or with a sweeping flourish, vertical lines or arcs and loops, ponderously or rapidly and so on. No two artists have the same style. " (so cool rite? Elephants do have their creativity and individualism!)

Elephants love to do creative things and to play games and as long as they are not pressured into doing anything they don't want, they will quickly develop their skills in whatever they have shown an aptitude for. (same as me!! But I'm a human ok? haha. )

How many elephant artists are there??

14 !! And usually they'll work from 9.00 am to 12.00 noon. :)

Can u recall juz now I mentioned an elephant by the name Jojo??

Let's probe into his personal life now and try to know more about him.

Name: Jojo
Sex: Male
Born: 1992 (17 yrs old le!!)
Origin
The Thai Elephant Conservation Center, Lampang, Thailand.
Nature
Jojo's movements are slow and deliberate. A favourite at the Center, he is a little bit spoilt. He was very naughty when he was young, but today he is simply mischievous and sometimes stubborn and wilfull. Jojo is very friendly with humans. (wa I think Jojo is a little bit like me. Slow, stubborn. haha. )
Special Story
Jojo is also an accomplished musician, who plays both the xylophone and the mouth organ, which he blows with his trunk. He is also a favourite of homestay visitors to the Center and he works with them too. A busy and talented creature.
Artistic Talents
Jojo is considered to be one of the top three elephant artists. Jojo’s works are very distinctive and they have sold at international auctions for thousands of dollars. Perhaps cognisant of his artistic status in the world, Jojo will decide for himself when his inspiration has died and in the middle of a painting will just turn around and walk off, no matter how much his mahout protests. (so got character!)

A MUST-SEE!!

看见它那么专注,一笔一划地画着,我的内心真的非常感动。

大象真的很可爱、很聪明。
