A Beautiful Sunday

Hey guys (and girls), today I’ll be taking the baton and writing the outing report! First time writing so 请多多指教! Haha, sounds like I’m writing an academic essay liddat.

It’s really a sinful weekend for me. Sinful as in I’ve been eating a lot of lup lup zup zup food, be it high class, middle class, low class, be it Western cuisine, Chinese, Japanese… a lot of miscellaneous stuff. Anyway back to topic, we went to East Coast Park on Sunday. It was a 风和日丽 day. Not so hot, and the sea breeze was cooling.

First we met at AMK station. Congrats to Mango for being the first to reach and wait for the rest of us! Keep it up k? =p This time Reiko was late. Live so near also can be late. Probably more complacent now since the Circle line is built. Where is the ‘dessert rule’? We need to revive it!

After Reiko arrived she began squealing abt her favourite Zai Zai and Zhang Jun Ning. Jupiter already predicted that before she came, and was ready to shut his ears. But then Jupiter also started squeaking 在树上唱歌, and so we also shut our ears.

It looked like it was going to rain cos of the dark clouds. We were worried that our plan could be spoilt, but we trusted the weather and went on ahead. Took the bus 76 to Marine Parade. Along the way we made a lot of noise, like inside a school bus with rowdy kids. Hope the other passengers weren’t disturbed by us.

We went Parkway Parade to buy our picnic stuff. Wah the basement level is really huge! With already so many shops below, I wonder what’s on the top… Bought long cheese bread (for Reiko) from Breadtalk, sandwiches (for Jupiter and me) and Mango’s favourite hotdog bun from Four Leaves. Proceeded to Cold Storage to buy Lays BBQ potato chips and some bottled drinks, then the hawker centre to buy noodles. Did I miss out anything? Haha. Yup, that’s our picnic food selection. A bit of this and that here and there.

Then we walked via the ‘normal’ route to finally reach East Coast Park! Luckily we immediately found an empty bench to settle down. That area wasn’t very crowded, good. I went to the toilet first and it was super far…kinda regretted not going earlier. Or maybe I shld have done it in the sea…

When I returned Reiko was abt the finish her bread already. She looked so hungry for the whole day. Anyway nobody wanted to seat on the other side of the bench, which was very hot and unshaded. So we decided to spread out the canvas sheet that Mango brought under the coconut tree, and have a authentic picnic experience.

Our Aladdin Carpet. The green colour blends well with the grass hor?

Fortunately the mat was able to accommodate 4 of us. The ants were annoying though. Kept scurry through our food and bit me too… Killed one by accident, haha. Ate and ate, then became full le. Reiko went ahead to attack the chocolate muffins she brought. Though not as delicious as the one we ate on Friday, both still tasted very nice to me. Roti john next? Haha…

We needed to find something to talk abt, so started playing 艺点心思, sharing gossips in our lives. As expected, Jupiter tried to ask those hard-to-answer questions, like relationship etc. Likes to ask but dun like to be asked. Mango wanted to change the rules such that no one is allowed to reject a question. Of course Jupiter violently protested. I guess nobody minds except him, haha.

Somehow Reiko kept asking questions abt hair. Talking abt hair, the strong breeze blew until our hair became out of shape. Then Jupiter became very frantic and demanded the chocolate mirror haha. Thanks to me, the game became very boring after some time. Stopped after the 2nd round. Either everyone knows each other very well, or we have too little life experiences to talk abt. Aiyoh we are not Yueniang lor. Where got so many interesting stories to tell…

Actually I prefer a talk show haha. Not abt gossips, but on current affairs, or small trivial stuff we encounter during our daily lives, like a mini-Stomp discussion. Better still, I shld have brought cards…

Oh ya the Lays potato chips were really nice! Kept eating non-stop. When there is nothing better to eat, I guess potato chips can suffice. Mango was upset that her agar agar became watery, and I was upset that my hotel chocolate melted. Bottomline Is: food must eat fast.

Dark clouds came and we decided to pack up and settle at McDonalds. Luckily it only sprinkled some water on us and went ahead to the rest of the island. And thus the trio decided to wet their feet with seawater. I din go cos I dun like soaking in the murky and salty water, which gives a sticky and sandy afterfeel.

我们出海咯!

Test water..."will it erode my feet?"

Looking at the horizon, waiting for tsunami to come.

What's this sandhill?

What's this jelly-looking stuff? Is that some discarded plastic? Mango's agar? Jellyfish? It's actually soft...

What's Mango throwing? Looks like some kind of fruit. Can trade?

Like that also fun...

Pile of rubbish...yucks. Shows how dirty the water is.

Watched the wave splash and splash...and the trio scream and scream….felt like sleeping zzz.

Why are there so many ships anchored in the sea uh?

Why are some waves bigger than the others uh?

Zzzz…

Finally the trio returned and I woke up. Mango took out her laptop, but in the end it was Jupiter and Reiko hogging it, playing the old ancient n-years ago pinball game. Play the real one lah, more interesting lor. Sadly such pinball machines hardly exist in arcades now. On the other hand, Mango and I were doing some intelligent study on Chinese language muhahaha.

And thus, our picnic-by-the-beach came to an end. Hopefully Jupiter managed to see some eye-candy…

---

Played the role-switch game while walking back to Marine Parade. No one was able to mimic me successfully haha, cos I got no 特色. Then we laff laff laff all the way until Parkway Parade.

Mango took the ‘risk’ and began eating her muffin while waiting for the bus. Then when the bus came she almost gobbled up the rest. Poor muffin.

Our pit stop was Iluma. Thanks to my voucher, we dined at Ebisboshi Shotengai (惠比寿星商店街). Due to its long name, ppl often forget or mistake it. I think it shld have a shorter and easier-to-remember name, like Manpuku.

Anyway Ebisboshi-blah is a restaurant resembling a Japanese food street, with several famous stalls from Japan. There is even a shabu-shabu (Japanese steamboat) corner with waitresses dressed in maid costumes. The design of the restaurant is very elaborate and makes you feel like dining within a bamboo forest.

Not to mention the special pen-menu system. You can select the items you want just by pointing the pen on the menu booklet. Yes, it can be noisy (and troublesome). At first the pen couldn’t detect our table number. After that just as we were abt to complete our order, the pen got stuck/jammed, and I had to call the waitress to take our orders manually. Hopefully our neighbouring table wasn’t annoyed by all the hassle created.

We took a really looooong time to decide what to eat. (I kinda expected it) and the food took quite some time to come. Jupiter was grumbling when his food was the last to be served. Good things must wait mah…haha.

Here are the pics of our food! Yum yum! Looks delicious right?

My okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake/pizza), with noodles underneath.

Mango's scallop teppanyaki (hotplate).

Reiko's ontama sobameshi, a mixture of rice and noodles.

Jupiter's chicken teppanyaki.

Much to my relief, everyone enjoyed their food! Yay! Jupiter’s expression was a bit different from normal. I thought he scalded his tongue on the hotplate. Reiko had no expression but she seemed to have fun playing with the food. Mango ate all the towgays first and left the best (scallops) till the last.

Looked like nobody was really full after that. Good food doesn’t make one full? We decided to give the mango kakigori (Japanese ice-kachang) a try…

With a scoop of mango ice-cream, strawberry and sweet melon.

We took our first scoop and…

Poof! Everyone was totally blown off by the taste! Squeals of happiness could be heard. Reiko even said that just by eating this can clear her Monday blues, while Mango added that it now claims the top spot for dessert, overtaking the mango ice-kachang from Xinwang. Haha. Everyone just scooped and scooped quickly non-stop…so intense!

When the last bit of mango was left, the spoon-war ensued among the trio, with Reiko emerging the winner! The mango nearly flew out of the bowl leh…haha. Then the rest of us looted the remaining syrup at the bottom, until it became sparkling clean.

Looks like eating at Ebis-blah was a good choice right? Without my voucher would you all agree to come in the first place? Haha. Hopefully you all will have the urge to visit this restaurant again and try other more delicious stuff. Remember to bring water bottle too =p.

And remember the name of the restaurant! And the name of the food! Recommend to your friends k? =) Why am I acting like a publicity agent haha…

Yea, the price is not cheap, but every good food comes with a cost. ^_^ Most important thing is to enjoy and not regret.

Glad that everyone went home satisfied, with the courage to face the start of the new week. That’s all for our 完美的一天!
