+ Tang Yuan Tang Yuan +
Ho Ho~ See.. I so early wake up. haha.. Yes, this is a diary entry, so you will see me talking to myself. Helloo.. Its not called Soliloquy for nothing. haha..
Anyway, today, I woke up real early, bath, and then realised that tuition is cancelled. haha.. Was bit sian.. But NOT FOR LONG, because I have already decided what I wana do today! I totally LOVE holiday, coz I can decide what I want to do for the day! haha..
The first thing I did, is to play cooking! haha.. Yes~ I helped my mom do the Tang Yuan Making. Anyway, because I am a 菜鸟,here are some Tang Yuan making tips for e only wana play but actually not skillful other 菜鸟s. hahaha..
1. DONT think your hand is clean just because you washed it. Esp if you wipe your hands on your jeans. or some furry clothes or any clothes that have high chance of dropping "fur". Coz I realised mine did, and a small portion of the Tang Yuan dough was attacked by my black tee's 毛. hahaha.. Right. It was quite funny. haha.. And my mom had to tsk me. haha..
2. So when you realised that your hand cannot be trusted, you look for something else to do. I immediately thought of something else I could do, which is to lift up the just boiled Tang yuan into another pot with the soup. In case you duno, you actually need to boil the Tang Yuan in normal water first, then lift it into the other pot with the peanut soup etc. And the tip my mom gave is "浮起来的就是熟了!" But really, what my eyes see, is another thing. The just boiled Tang Yuan DUN float to the surface. Mind You! They DUN. At least dont do it obviously. hahaha.. So I realised that float to surface actually referred to: "从锅底跳跃上来,乱翻滚的,就是可以捞的。" haha.. And so.. I did the lao-ing. haha.. Anyway before I discovered 毛, I rolled one Tang Yuan which is odd shape! haha.. I think our Chinese way of making Tang Yuan is comparable to the Western Cookie making session. Just that cookies are made all year round, and our tang yuan only made during special occasion. And 物以稀为贵。haha..
3. Oh! Actually it doesnt have to be Very boiled in the first pot. Since the cooking continues in the 2nd pot, so each Tang Yuan doesnt need to be very boiled in the first pot.
4. You can make Tang Yuan using.... Water & the secret flour.
到底是什么呢?It is~ Glutinous Rice Flour!!
This is trivial for the cooking experts. But for the 菜鸟s, its a saving tip! haha..
Coz you can get one whole packet for like $1.10, unlike the market that sells it for 2 bucks, and making the dough yourself ensures better quality! Doesnt "crack" easily like the markets'. haha..
According to my mom, this flour can be used to make other chinese goodies, like suan pan zi. haha..
I just did some lao-ing. So that's all the tips I noticed! haha..
