何维健 bags a newcomer award in China.
Xinmsn reports:
Singer-songwriter Derrick Hoh may not be a new face to locals anymore, but the ex-Project Superstar contestant recently nabbed a Best Newcomer award at an awards ceremony in China.
Derrick released his debut album Unclassified back in 2008, and promoted it in only Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Last year, he finally made his foray into China with his second album Change.
The title song off the album, 'Dang Wo Zhi Dao Ni Men Xiang Ai' -- a cover of Heavenly King Aaron Kwok's song of the same name -- was well-received by the fans in China and turned Derrick into a household name.
Recently, the singer was invited to attend the 2011 Sprite Music Awards held in Guangzhou, and was surprised when he bagged the Taiwanese region Best Newcomer award. Other singers at the awards ceremony included Jay Chou, Eason Chan, JJ Lin and Wei Bird.
The 27-year-old shared that he did not expect to win and was surprised when he heard the audience's loud applause after his performance on stage. He also felt that winning the award is a good start for his first venture into the Chinese music industry.
The Project Superstar Season 1 contestant let on that he is running out of places to keep his awards at home in Singapore, "so I put them back to their boxes, and stacked them up".
He laughed, "If it's possible, I'd want a room just to keep all these awards."
Now that he has won the Best Newcomer award, Derrick admitted that he hopes to win composing awards in future. His previous self-composed works included 'Dang Wo Zhi Dao Ni Men Xiang Ai', 'Yao Zi' and 'Mei Shi Mei Ke'.

Latest update on the Makiyo's incident
Xinmsn reports:
Two days ago, the Taiwanese Labour Union confirmed reports that Makiyo's work permit was revoked on Feb 16, following investigations of her involvement in an assault case.
The starlet and her friend Takateru Tomoyori were involved in the beating of a taxi driver last month and both parties have been charged for aggravated assault. The prosecutor's office recommended a four-year jail term for Makiyo and a six-year jail term for Tomoyori.
Due to the severity of the case, she will not be allowed to apply for another work permit within the next three years and Makiyo is currently required to stay in Taiwan, before a verdict is reached. Makiyo cannot take on any jobs during this period of time, or she will be issued a fine.
It is understood that if found guilty, the singer-actress will have to serve her sentence in Taiwan, before being deported. On the other hand, if she is not found guilty, the 28-year-old will be eligible to apply for a work permit immediately and will not be bounded by the three-year restriction.
While many believed that this assault case marks the end of Makiyo's showbiz career, the actress' popularity is soaring in China. Rumour has it that actress Cecilia Cheung's management agency have their eyes set on signing Makiyo.
Makiyo's manager denied rumours regarding Cecilia's agency expressing interest, but confirmed that the entertainer's work permit has been revoked.

Jupiter's Special
I guess Singaporeans by now should be very familiar with 小鬼, 黄鸿升.
After acting in a local movie, he will be here again this few months to act in a brand new Mediacorp drama. So when you are shopping better keep your eyes open cos you never know, you might just bump into him on the streets. Haha.
Speaking of 小鬼, recently is popularity is not only on the rise in Singapore but also in Taiwan. He starred in a new Taiwanese movie with brought it about $3 billion dollars in box office.
人气火红.
Hence today, we shall look at his latest musical project and see whether he sings as well as he acts.

Fans of  小鬼 would know that he, like his 师兄 周华健, has difficulty memorizing lyrics.
And this first song is definitely a challenge to him cos the lyrics is very very long.
A whooping 800 plus words in this song.
But i must say this song is pretty nicely written.
Very suitable for his unique voice also.
This is 七十亿分之一.

The next song has a little bit of Japanese elements in it.
It makes use of some Japanese traditional instruments and even the song is named after a place in Japan.
The song is called 涩谷.
Quite a nice song and very refreshing to hear 小鬼 singing songs from such genres.
I personally think that he can sing love songs as well as the rock songs he is usually more inclined to.

I'm sure that you can definitely sense 小鬼's improvement and maturity in this album.
The themes are more matured and more emotional as compared to his previous albums which are more 阳光.
This next song called 平行时空 can really sing that his singing style had changed.
Not just shouting the songs anymore but singing.

I love this next song!!!!!
好好听哦.
And what's more attractive is that 小鬼 is involved in the lyrics writing as well.
很倔强的歌唱诠释.
Very suitable for the theme of this song in fact.
This is 黑心.

If you are not very used to 小鬼's new transformation.
Fret not, we will end today's episode with the 小鬼 that everyone loves!!!!
This is the theme song for 一泡而红 which can also be found in this new album.
This is 谢谢你让我等于你.

That's all this week.
Hope you guys have a happy and fulfilling week ahead!!!
