Train is coming ~~~ Chiong ah!

Personally I haven't heard this jingle yet, but there are already negative comments about it.

地铁宣导曲“幼稚”？　受访搭客大多不排斥

“地铁到站了，地铁到站了……请排队，并祝你有个愉快的旅程，叮咚！”

最近在地铁站等车时，你有没有注意到地铁站播放的英文版“地铁到站，请排队”的宣导短曲？

陆路交通管理局及公共交通理事会，在本月6日推出新一轮公共交通优雅行为宣传，这次请到歌舞剧团体“点心宝贝”来唱宣导短曲，提醒公众要排队。

宣导短曲在地铁站播放后，在网上掀起讨论热潮。有网民批评，宣导短曲“幼稚无知、把大人当小孩看待、听起来很烦人”。

也有网民说：“这显示新加坡人还长不大，需要一再地提醒要排队，简直如家丑外扬，很丢脸。”但也有网友表示，宣导短曲值得赞扬。

针对网友的热谈，《联合晚报》记者到地铁站采访，得到的是正面回应。

大多数受访者认为，宣导短曲令人耳目一新，歌词富娱乐性，听了令人会心一笑。

公众认为，每个人的欣赏角度不同，有褒有贬是很自然的，但他们都不排斥宣导短曲，也不认为是“家丑外扬”。

Obviously the comments are from whiners who can make something with good intent sound really bad.

I don't think the problem here is whether the jingle is childish or how badly it reflects the behaviour of Singaporeans. Most importantly, is the purpose of this jingle fulfilled? Can Singaporeans follow the call and queue up nicely before the train doors?

Frankly I don't think so.

It's probably a good move but I doubt that jingle can affect our ingrained habit of rushing into the trains as soon as the doors are opened. The leopard never changes its spots. Those who seek seats will never give up. When the train is crowded, who wants to risk being left out and made to wait for the next train? Especially with the recent issue of overcrowded trains, I don't think our boarding habits will change for the better.

This jingle might even have an adverse effect of encouraging people to begin crowding around the doors when the train is coming. Since so many people are already crowding when the see the spot the train entering that station, it doesn't really make a difference whether they do it sooner or later eh? The yellow queue lines are like prompting them "Please crowd around here".

In response to the comments, if people refuse to follow the reminder in the 'childish' jingle, aren't they worse than kids? (not that kids are bad to start off with)
