Entertainment News (Upsize)

追星娱乐八卦新闻

Tada! Jupiter is out of orbit this weekend, so it would be me Saturn, I mean Servbot, taking over the baton for E-News today. No sensational news this week, but hope you all will enjoy my upsized report nevertheless.

Jaypop Returns

The celebrity focus of this week definitely goes to Jay Chou, who is currently in Singapore for his concert. The 31-year-old singer mentioned that this is his first time holding a concert for 3 consecutive nights at the same location. Along with dazzling hi-tech graphics and 3D-images, Jay put up a splendid performance on the first night yesterday. Prior to the concert, an autograph session was held at Bugis Junction. The event was successful except for a few minor hiccups such as fans crying when they were unable to receive his autograph due to missing album cover, wrong album version, etc.

Being repeatedly asked about his ‘stunt’ during the Taiwan concert, Jay explained that he actually intended to shock the audience with his daring dance with Jolin, but it ended up shocking himself due to the overwhelming hoo-ha by the media that lasted for weeks. However he denied the claim that both of them are together again. Similarly, Jolin also denied the claim, and stressed that Jay did not provide assistance in shooting her sister’s wedding photos in the position of her sister’s future brother-in-law.

Jay’s 跨时代 album marks his 10 years anniversary in the music industry. He managed to release at least an album every year from 2000 to 2010, except 2009 due to movie commitments. He has starred in 7 movies thus far and his latest movie role would be an Asian masked man in the coming Hollywood film ‘The Green Hornet’, stipulated for release in early 2011. Come to think of it, I have never heard him speak English before. Hopefully his standard won’t be as bad as his buddy Jacky Wu haha.

Being able to maintain such high popularity even after 10 years is every singer’s dream. Receiving several movie offers despite mediocre acting is also every actor’s dream…

Can Jay’s outstanding fame in Asia continue on? “If one day I’m no longer a popular idol, I would consider being a director instead”, he said to the press. Let’s hope that he will be able generate unique plots and produce movies like 不能说的秘密.

Viewership Curse

Poor 林志玲 has been labeled as a viewership jinx after her works had failed to produce desired results matching to her high popularity. She was recently starred in a drama “月光恋人” alongside Japan’s most popular actor Takuya Kimura. However the drama’s viewership fell into abyss despite the promising response during the first episode. One episode even made the record for having the lowest viewership among Takuya’s dramas in 14 years.

The drama was on the verge of being axed, and eventually ended prematurely at the 8th episode (average episode count of Japanese dramas is 10 or 11). To add on to the misery, the drama was voted the worst in 5 categories. This really made 林志玲 lose face. I guess this is the end of her acting career in Japan.

Personally I felt it was unfair to blame 林志玲 as the script was really bad. The storyline lacks the excitement factor to make the audience crave for more. The debut episode was slightly lackluster, and it went further downhill subsequently. On the other hand, I think 林志玲 acted pretty well. Without a good plot, actors/actresses cannot develop to their full potentials too.

Adding on, it’s also not easy for foreigners to venture into Japan’s entertainment industry due to the citizen’s xenophobic mentality. Look at how many Chinese artistes, who attempted to enter the Japanese market, backed out eventually.

Song made 孙协志 in tears

孙协志 and his juniors participated in Tuesday’s game show ‘Don’t forget the lyrics’, and the impressive performance by the trio brought them up to the final stage. When it is 孙协志’s turn to face the last challenge, he decided to give it a try, after all they had already reached so far and didn’t want to give up like that.

His gungho attitude was commendable, but was unfortunately reciprocated by a merciless song which made the contestants’ jaws drop. Sun broke down on the spot as their prize money reduced 20-fold to $1000.

孙协志 has never even heard of the singer before. However he remained sporting and blamed himself for not knowing enough songs. Many audience were completely clueless too. This is the merciless song by the way:

After the programme was aired, Mediacorp was blasted for its lack of sincerity in giving the prize money. What were the producers thinking when setting this song as the final question? They should have known that 梁文福 & 新谣 are not well-known in Taiwan. Even I haven’t heard of this song before. Why resort to such underhand tactics to save money? After all the singers came for the sake of raising funds for charity.

Jupiter's Special

Feels a little weird to call it Jupiter's Special when it’s not done by Jupiter haha. You may call it Saturn's Special instead – quite apt because today is Saturday haha.

Let’s get the special going! Today I’m going to introduce a newcomer in the music industry. He is 严爵(English: Yen-J), aged 22, a Taiwanese singer-songwriter. He probably gave himself that name due to his love for jazz music.

You all have probably heard of his songs though the radio. His chart performance is remarkable too, for a newcomer. This is his first hit, 谢谢你的美好, which is also the name of his debut album.

The promising newcomer managed to hold his individual concert a mere 88 days after his debut album was released in April. He was initially afraid of the poor turnout, until he saw 3800 fans awaiting his appearance. Would you support his music too? Let’s continue to listen to his 2nd hit, which shows his shyness in expressing his love to the girl he likes loves.

严爵 is a musically talented person and knows how to play many instruments such as piano, guitar and drums. His mentor Mayday even commented that he knows more instruments than the number of members in Mayday, after seeing him demonstrate his talents in the concert. Here’s another song that metaphorizes love to curry. (how many languages and countries are there in this MV?)

His previous works include ‘没有如果’ by 梁静茹 and ‘花火’ by 叮当 & 阿信. If you like the style of these songs, his songs will probably suit your ears too. The following song seems to speak out his experiences and feelings towards cutting an album.

Bonus Track:
I would like to introduce another newcomer who is also a excellent songwriter. He is currently a university student, and his talent was recognised after emerging champion in a singing competition on TV. Here's 韦礼安 with his latest single 因為愛.

That ends this week’s J-Special and E-news. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to host the Best Column in Zhui Xing blog for once haha. Jupiter will be back next week. =)
