We live in the digital era and the information age whereby time equals to money and people are constantly working, searching for more information or rushing to their destination. In fact we are so busy that we often neglect the smallest and sometimes the most important thing to do daily. Some even complain that the do not have time for it.
Well, eating breakfast every morning is one of those small but important things that we often forgo. It is vital that we have our breakfast every morning. By having breakfast every morning, not only are we one step closer to healthy living, but there are also benefits that goes along with it. Breakfast helps boost our energy levels early in the morning giving us enough energy to start off our day. It even reduces the risk of us being overweight and prevents us from developing health problems like Type 2 Diabetes.
If that isn’t enough to make you change your habit and start eating breakfast, here are the top 5 reasons why you should have your breakfast every morning.
[Increase Metabolism]
Metabolism in the body is the ability to burn energy away. Which means that the higher your metabolism rate, the easier it is for you u to lose those unwanted fats in your body. Research have shown that people who eat breakfast daily have a higher metabolism rate and lower weight in general as compared to those who don’t take breakfast. Thus, eating breakfast actually helps in weight control and reduces your risk of becoming overweight. However, one should not overeat during his breakfast. It should be taken moderately. An ideal breakfast choice is one that is healthy and low in fat.
[Improves Concentration]
Do you feel sluggish and hard to focus and concentrate in the morning in school or during work? Think the reason for this is because of lack of sleep? Then you might be wrong. The real reason might be due to you skipping your breakfast before going to school or work. Having breakfast renews your energy and boost or energy level; it also puts you in a good mood, thus improving our concentration level. Research and studies have shown that adults who take their breakfast regularly perform better at work. Children who do so also have higher IQ and better behaviour in school.

When we sleep at night, the blood sugar in our body will drop hence it is especially important that we take our breakfast every morning to replenish this drop in blood sugar. Food that are high in carbohydrates like noodle soup and porridge are especially effective in regulating the blood sugar level in our body.

For those who always have constipation, maybe the solution is to start eating breakfast daily. Eating breakfast provides a higher fiber intake in the body, thus its keeps bowel regular and improves constipation

Kids learn a lot of things by observing the behaviour of their parents. That is why it is important to pass on your good eating habits to your children so that they will also develop a healthy lifestyle. Well, we are so lucky that in Singapore, we have a wide range of breakfast choices from different cultures to choose from everyday.
A good breakfast choice should be one that is
- high in carbohydrates
- high in fiber

Examples of good breakfast meals are noodle soup with lean meat and lots of vegetables, high fiber cereal and low fat milk.
We could also have better breakfast choices without compromising the taste and your craving for a particular food, all you have to do is to opt for a healthier version.

Nasi Lemak with fried chicken contains 6 teaspoons of fats
Nasi Lemak with Sambal KangKung contains only 3.
Curry Laksa contains 7 teaspoons of fats.
Wanton noodle (dry) contains 2.
Wanton noodle soup contains only 1.
All these goes to show that as long as we choose the right kind of food to eat, we will be able to eat healthily without even compromising the taste of the food.
